The following proposal is the culmination of a detailed study that set out to determine the most appropriate site response. The study explored a wide range of options including all new build schemes along with schemes that adapted and reused the existing buildings, and explored a broad range of uses, including industrial, residential and commercial.
The options were assessed against conventional commercial viability criteria, but also due consideration was given to fully realising the potential of the site, its buildings, and its surroundings, and within the broader context of enlightened development principles including adherence to circular economy principles.
The preferred scheme, aims to repair and enhance the buildings on the site, and to organise them into a symbiotic assemblage, sharing access and open space, and imbuing the site with a sense of place that, in turn, acts as a catalyst for positive development in the surrounding area.
